Some will be disappointed to realise that Col. Howard Vyse, explorer of the Great Pyramid, had died nearly ten years earlier, and so for once couldn't be accused of sneaking inside a royal memorial and forging any cartouches ...

It would be interesting to know how the Victorian builders actually constructed the cairn. Is its interior formed of rubble?
