Hmm... thought about this a little more.
Ideally, for this pattern technique to work, you would want to start with a minimum phrase length of 4 or 5 symbols. In the example above, I gave an english example with an "18 letter phrase appearing in 5 texts"
In this case, if the average text size is 4.6 letters/symbols, with no text more that 17... then this pattern recognition technique would probably not be very helpful for application to the indus script. With 2-symbol patterns, etc... the english analogy here would be finding a "th" or "it", which would be non-useful.
So I would have to agree with Prof. Farmer on this one, that this sort of analysis would probably not be very helpful for indus script. On other scripts, like a linear A, I think it would be a fascinating technique/analysis.
