Anthony wrote "First, I would create civil penalties for publishers who label fiction as fact or history."

Really? Could you define when something ceases to be fact and becomes fiction? For instance Tom Clancy's work of fiction "The Hunt for Red October" had so many facts about submarine detection that the Pentagon almost blew a gasket when they read it. Ian Flemings "James Bond" series were based on real organizations and real people. The more you dig into it the more you find. On the other hand the Official Biography of Ronald Reagan that was sanctioned by the Gipper himself is narrated by an imaginary character. What could have been the premier volume in Reagan studies has been dumped by historians as unreliable since he threaded a few fictional elements through his biography, sort of like throwing a little cyanide in the punch bowl. You don't want to drink from it.

"Secondly, I would take the money from the penalties and use it to fund programs on critical thinking in government schools."

Really what would that accomplish? "Critical thinking" is a two edged sword depending on who's using it. One person sees breaking into a safe as a problem in applied physics another person sees it as economic redistribution of wealth a third person sees a felony that needs prosecution. Each person has used "critical thinking" to arrive at their own particular rationalizaiton.

"Thirdly, I would allow tribes like the Navajo mentioned above to SUE authors who libel them in their works, while pretending to BE a member of the tribe, as has done the author concerned here. His statements that the Navajo culture excluded him and treated him like an outcast is NOT accurate, is not an accurate reflection of Navajo custom, is defamatory, and as such, is deserving of punitive damages paid to the tribes affected. (*Note* -- I can't take credit for this one. My S.O. came up with it last evening.)"

Why should Navajos and indian tribes be allowed this right exclusively? Why not open the doors of litigation to anybody anywhere who has ever been slighted or injured by anybody who feels they've been defamed.

Finally who said "What is the Truth?"

Any other ideas to help keep things honest?

Again what is honesty? Or again "What is the Truth?"
