I'm just now finishing up reading the Book of the Navajo by Raymond Friday Locke. Locke covers a little bit of everything from various ceremonies, myths, society, and, of course, the tribe's history. Just about everything that Locke writes about Navajo culture is absolutely correct and the history section is really something else. I learned a great deal from that section in regards to the period of time from the Spanish conquistadors and so on. Although it could easily have read like a textbook, somehow, Locke's ability as a storyteller really keeps the interest there.
I would really suggest this book for anyone who is interested in the Navajo.
