Thirukkural is the world’s foremost , finest and fantastic piece of poetical literature covering every aspect of life – for all periods and for the entire human race. It like an exposition of ethics , impresses as if it is a treatise on politics and then goes on to lead and guide through the intricacies of love life ending up in a strongly bonded well knit family life. All in short poems of two lines. (or kurals)
The author Thiruvalluvar – in the opinion of the learned scholars – is the greatest Tamil ever lived and for the type of creation – this Thirukkural – it can be said with absolute certainty that no one has ever attempted at creating a like of this.
In 1330 – two lined poems (kurals), he has compacted the whole way of life – what they are? How they are? and what is expected of us? Surely a marvel.
Thirukkural is composed of 133 chapters each with 10 kurals, and have 3 parts.
Part I under the ‘Araththupaal’ has 38 chapters, all talking about the ethics of life starting with the chapter ‘Kadavul Vaazhthu’ (praise of god)
Part II under the title ‘Porudpaal’ has 70 chapters all related to the prowess needed in running of every day life.
Part III under the title ‘Inpaththupaal’ has 25 chapters dealing with every day homely and family life
