At least I was awake enough to remember that there IS a Greek original!
Kilgore's was my first class in the morning, at 7:00. Besides, that was nearly forty years ago, and my aged brain fails...(Snortle!)
The possible use of paint on the surface aought to be checked. There should still be some trace in the crevices and joints. Its presence would strongly suggest a Classical provenance, and its absence would certainly point to a Renaissance origin. I suspect that Michaelangelo (Or any of his contemporaries) would be too proud of their surface treatments to cover them with paint!
