Interesting there is a goddess calle Mari. Mary is very similar, and the Egyptian word for beloved was Meri. This was a common part of female names like Meriaten....Beloved of Aten. I wouldnt be surprised if there is a common origin there somewere.

Mari...rain...vessels of water....

The mother goddess was often associated with fresh water, pots, springs etc. Water was a symbol of life.. Aphrodite etc was associated with these ideas, perhaps also Astarte....
