As far as I remember moth of the tooth marks were associated with leopard kills - also associated with the fact that the caves the remains were found in tended to be overgrown with trees and are ideal leopard habitat.

The sample could well be highly skewed as it seems that leopard behaviour may have led to the deposition of skulls in areas more likely to preserve them.

Also, that ancient hominids were preyed upon does not rule out there role as hunters, although it seems to me that this is a later development than the australopithecus remains associated with leopards.
