Mystics have scoured the globe for centuries in vain to find
the civilisation mythologised by Plato. Can a new mission
succeed at last? By Peter Popham, Independent Online,
August 24, 2005, [news.independent.co.uk]

In part, the article stated:

"He has persuaded a mainstream American
documentary maker, TMC Entertainment, based
in Los Angeles, to climb on board, and sink tens
of thousands of dollars into making a two-hour
live special on Mr Sarmast's final expedition
and the "filming of the structures" next year.
"This TV special, says the company, "will enable
viewers worldwide to participate in the thrill
of discovery as they watch, live on their own
TV screens, as manned submarines film
underwater ROV submersibles blasting
sediment off the buried structures - revealing
the full detail of what has lain hidden for
probably more than 12,000 years."

I suspect this is going to be the archaeological equivalent
Geraldo Rivera and, in fact, promises to eclipse his fiasco
with Al Capone's vault. If anyone hears about where this
special will be televised, I would love to know when and on
what channel it will appear so I can have one of my sisters,
who have cable tape it.

For all of the effort and money that has been sunk into this
project, Sarmast has **not** done the least expensive,
relative to using a ROV, procedure to test his ideas. For
a fraction of its cost a series of 5 to 10, 10 m(30 ft) long
piston cores could have been collected at his site. Such
cores would have conclusively shown whether or not there
archaeological deposits at his alleged "site" and whether
or not it had been above sea level in the last 20,000 -
30,000 years.

Pictures of piston corers can be found at [www.kc-denmark.dk],
[130.92.227.10], and [oceanworld.tamu.edu]

Also, it is quite strange that that he has not attached a
subbottom profiler, which would have provided him with a
siesmic data that would have given him a cross-section of
the subsurface geology through his alleged "site". This
would also have either conclusively confirmed or refuted
his ideas. An example of the subsurface data that a
sub-bottom profiler would given him is illustrated in
"SCAMP High Resoultion Subbottom Profiler (HRSP)" at
[www.ldeo.columbia.edu] and [woodshole.er.usgs.gov].
The lack of the use of a sub-bottom profiler is anomalous
in that sonars are typically used in tandem with them in
standard sea floor mapping project. Using a sub-bottom
profiler is quite small relative to the enormous fixed
daily cost of what a person pays for an ocean going
vessel capable of conducting sonar and ROV work in deep
water.

It is interesting to note that Robert Sarmast is either an
architect or has training as one. This with Angela Micol,
who is also an architect and manager of the Satellite
Discoveries web page, shows that even architects can
confuse natural features and formations with man made
structures.
