There are two main benefits of copyright

1. To protect the author's right to obtain some sort of commercial benefit for his valuable work.
2. To control how his valuable work is used.

If the author uploads that work to the Net and doesn't take steps to block it from being misused by a hundred million users who couldn't give a toss (you and I excluded) then how in the hell can suing someone be justified. How can the author control anything if the work is willingly sent up the tube and into everyone's digital bedroom.

As far as I can see Brad Templeton, copyright seen on the net should be re-labelled "and I explicitly give it away"
