Given that McCoy and Scotty were some ten years older than Kirk,
(approximately 45 to his 34) and Uhura and Sulu several years younger -
with Checkov a mere 22 - it is improbable in the extreme that they were at
the Academy at same time. Spock seems to be about Kirk's age - going by
'Journey to Babel' (he hasn't spoken to his father since he left for the
Academy and that was 18 years ago) but there is no indication they knew
each other prior to Kirk's being assigned to command the Enterprise.
Of course the Academy is probably a very big place and Spock was on a
science track and Kirk on command track so their paths very likely
wouldn't have crossed.

But like the man said, appropo of another series, 'Continuity? What
continuity?'
