It is futile because not only is the human contribution to atmospheric carbon in the minor compared to natural sources but because there is good reason to question whether 'Global Warming' is driven by carbon emissions at all!

Granted it doesn't matter to much if impressionable middle class folk in the first world decide to drastically lower their standard of living but what effect will imposing carbon caps have on the developing world? And for what?
