Yes, we went to the night launch of Atlantis many years ago.

The husband won a trip in one of those 'buy bonds, get a prize' sweepstakes at E-Systems. It was probably the only prize they EVER offered that we would have EVER wanted, and it was glorious! We got the "behind the scenes tour" (us and 90 other people) and sat in the grandstands... the ones you see with the huge digital clock in front of it.

You could hear the roar in your bones; in your blood. The glare turned the landscape from night into day, and the shuttle roared skyward, dragonlike, on a lance of blinding white flame. Saffron smoke trailed in its wake and the bright plumes lasted (a warm orange glow against the black night sky) minutes after it was gone.

Most couples have a "special song." We have a shuttle launch instead. smiling smiley
