I found out about this while reading the local trading paper. Once you find your group it takes you to the yahoo mailing list for the group where you can join up.
People offer stuff they have to give away, or request something they need. The only requirement is that it all is free. Checking my group I see in the last month what was given away included a dining room hutch, a car luggage rack, clothes for all ages, landscape materials, and other items.
