My best friend had a long planned trip to Egypt a few years ago. 10 days before they were due to arrive, the massacre at Queen Hatsheput's Temple occurred. Her sister, who was going with her, insisted that they go anyways. They were actually kept very safe the entire trip, having an armed escort (an entire truckload of armed to the teeth military) almost the entire time. Tourism is extremely important to Egypt so once something like this happens, they apparently make every effort to insure the safety of their foreign tourists. I can well imagine any would-be terrorists thinking twice about attacking a tourist group if they're accompanied by a small force of trained military...
