one day while visiting new york, the pope is riding around
in his car sight-seeing on some down time. it occurs to him
he had ridden in the car thousands of times but never once
drove it. he leans up to the driver and asks if he can take
over driving for a little while. unable to refuse the pope,
of course the driver obliges. soon after taking off, the
pope is all over the road, speeding and leaning on the horn
having a blast. eventually he is pulled over by one of new
yorks finest.
"liscence please sir" the cop asks.
"sorry officer but i have no liscence, did i do something
wrong?" the pope asks.
"yes sir, you were driving recklessly and endangering
everyone else on the road...not only that but you haven't
even got a liscense!" the policeman reprimanded
the little pontiff.
"i'm so sorry, i promise i will never let it happen
again, you sure you can't just give me a warning?"
the pope asked apologetically.
"well....one second, just wait here" replied
the cop, returning to his squad car.
picking up his radio the cop says "chief, i have a situation
here and i'm not sure what to do. i pulled over someone
for reckless driving but he is an important person and i
want to handle it right."
"well, is he more important than me?" asks the
chief.
"absolutely" replied the cop.
"well is he more important than the mayor?"
the chief inquired.
"most definately" answered the policeman.
"hmmmm....is he more important than the president?"
asked the chief in a hushed voice.
after thinking for a couple seconds, "affirmative"
replied the cop.
"well who the hell is this guy?!?" the chief
asked unable to conceal his confusion.
"i don't know, " answered the cop, "but
he's got the pope driving for him."
