More details:

We invite you to join us for the upcoming hybrid
conference Looking Beyond the Text: Scribal Practices
in Ancient Egypt, which will take place May 17–19,
2023, at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz.

Looking Beyond the Text explores contextualized approaches
to ancient Egyptian texts that bring the textual, material,
social, and cultural into conversation. Spanning from the
Old Kingdom to late antiquity, from papyrus to ostraca to
living rock, the conference includes keynote lectures by
Chloé Ragazzoli, Susanne Töpfer, and Ursula Verhoeven and
the AKU-team, along with 24 papers that examine manuscripts
not only as vehicles for texts, but also as objects that
provide insight into scribal practices and ancient Egyptian
social and cultural life.

The program, book of abstracts, and other information are
available on the conference website:
[scribal-practices.uni-mainz.de]

We welcome participation both in person and online. If
you plan to attend the conference, we kindly ask that
you register ahead of time. There is no registration fee.
