... Wednesday, March 27th ... marked the first day of #ConnectingCollections
[www.instagram.com], an
initiative directed at bridging institutions with object collections
from the ancient world.

In our kick-off posts ... on Instagram,
and moving forward, we use this hashtag to call out posts that explore
various shared themes, artifact types, and histories. For example,
we’ll be looking at connecting through excavations, people, scribal
education, and technology in the coming months, with posts planned for
the last Wednesday of the month, so please mark your digital
calendars!

The founding members of #ConnectingCollections include the Harvard
Museum of the Ancient Near East (@harvardmuseum), Kelsey Museum of
Archaeology (@kelseymuseum), Metropolitan Museum of Art (Ancient
Departments) (@metancient/@metmuseum), Penn Museum (@pennmuseum),
Oriental Institute (@theorientalinstitute), and Yale Babylonian
Collection (@yalebabyloniancollection), and we are continuing to grow
as you read this email! Currently we are focusing our efforts on
Instagram, but we hope to expand to Twitter in due course.

Please follow these institutions on our various platforms and engage
with #ConnectingCollections. Also, if you’re associated with an
institution with an object collection from the ancient world and would
like to participate, we would love to have you; please contact
Kiersten Neumann (neumann@uchicago.edu) and Elizabeth Knott
(elizabeth.knott@yale.edu).
