SPECIAL FREE LECTURE
THE SYSTEMATIC REUSE OF 21ST DYNASTY COFFINS
Monday, 10 June 2013 at 18:30
The Friends of the Petrie Museum and The Egypt Exploration Society are
delighted to welcome Dr Kathlyn (Kara) Cooney, Associate Professor of
Egyptian Art and Architecture at the University of California, Los
Angeles for a joint lecture to recognise the 25th Anniversary of the
Friends of the Petrie Museum:

Kara Cooney - The Systematic Reuse of 21st Dynasty Coffins
Theban funerary arts of 20th and 21st Dynasties, particularly wooden
nesting coffins, often show evidence of reuse, indicating that mummies
were removed from coffins so that they could redecorated and reused for
those who had recently died. This talk will highlight why Thebans
demanded material containers for the dead even when they were in short
supply, and the steps they were willing to take to get them.

Tickets are free, but prebooking is essential at
