Michael Jaye is an associate professor at the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. An
applied mathematician, Jaye has published in a
variety of discipline including underwater sound
propagation, agent-based models of human behavior,
the growth and decay of the cryosphere, and geology.
Jaye’s interest in geology began with satellite map
imagery of the Monterey Canyon drainage system,
and his subsequent investigations led to a recent
presentation at the annual meeting of the Geological
Society of America in Vancouver. His primary
