Many years ago I visited Tikal with a Mayan guide. He said the Mayan area was like a giant suburb. As we drove to Siebal and Tikal he mentioned that every 3rd mountain was an overgrown temple. A few years ago the lidar mappings showed how true this was. Another point. Around 800 ad the sites were all abandoned. Like watching a row of dominos. Climate and wars were offered as causes. Considering the worlds present situation that collapse might also had an epidemic as help.
