There is a new open access (freely downloadable) book about the
collapse of early states (and complex societies) now avaialable from
University of Cambridge Press. the book is:

Yoffee, N. (2019). The Evolution of Fragility: Setting the Terms. [Book].

The September 2019 Archaeological Record has an article about
the making of this book and hope for additional open access books.
