HAL kills most of his creators (the scientists and astronauts on the Discovery) ~ an expression of Nietzsche's 'God is dead' statement. But Dave Bowman shuts HAL down ~ a statement of the power that a creator wields.
Then if you read 3001, Arthur C. Clarke presents an interesting finale to his series of works. I don't want to spoil it for you - but you will see what I mean if you read it.</HTML>
