The interesting thing about the Amphipolis site is its positioning. Amphipolis means amphi+polis, city on both sides, on both sides of the river. But we have names like Amphisa where the name is considered to relate to two mountains - the city in between the mountains.
It seems that Amphipolis also relates to mountains. But why build such a massive mound - tomb in perfect positioning if not to commemorate a great king?
