<HTML>I have read this book. It is essentially a somewhat
more sophisticated version of the "Earth in Upheaval."
Although Velikovsky can be excused because of the
immature state of geological and paleontological
knowledge when he wrote his book, this book lacks
this excuse.

I call this book "cafeteria catastrophism" because it
selects only the quotes and evdience that are palatable
to the thesis as a person would select foods that are
palatable to one's taste at a cafeteria and ignores those
which contradict its thesis as a person would ignore
unplatable food at a cafeteria.

The book has lots of citations and references but the
book ignores those which contradicts its thesis,
misrepresents many of the ones that it uses to make
its point, indulges in all sorts of strawmen arguments
in attacking conventional interpretations, and presumes
its interpretations of ancient myth are unique and the
truth, among many other flaws. the enormous number
of citations present only this illusion of the scholarship
and understanding of geology that this book lacks.

A good example of the level of science in this book
is that it argues that manganese nodules which occur
on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean were all derived
from the fragments of a massive meteorite that
hit Earth at the end of the Ice Age.

Of course, it contains the usual complaints about how
bigoted and prejudice conventional geologists are towards
catastrophic explanations for the end of the last Ice Age
and regards such people as being completely stupid for not
agreeing with "truth" that the authors of this book have
to offer about the end of the last Ice Age.

This book is not even entertaining. If you need to
read it, obtain a copy via interlibrary loan and spend
the money on more entertaining science fiction like
"Halfway Human" by Carolyn Ives Gilman or "Solaris"
by Andrey Tarkovsky.
