I find the whole thing absolutely heartbreaking. We have a few fairly antiquated copies of the British Museum Bulletin, some of which contain articles about earlier excavations carried out by British archaeological teams in Iraq; they express gratitude to their Iraqi counterparts for all the help and assistance that they provided. I dread to think what has since become of the sites that were excavated, any antiquities that were found, and the Iraqi archaeologists themselves ...
