Whilst the Big Bang theory is the one that best fits the observed phenomena, it is certainly not without problems. For a readable introduction to BB, may I suggest John Gribbin's <i>In Search of the Big Bang</i>. Also very interesting, especially in relation to questions surrounding time, is Paul Davies' <i>About Time</>. Both are inevitably dated – but this is inevitable as new findings occur at least weekly.
