Ronald: Well Scott, what's your comment on the fact that there actually exists a Khafre Queen's pyamid ?
SC: I am fully aware of what is/was thought be the 'Cult' Pyramid of Khafre, a structure that is considerably smaller than the 2 Sets of Queens and comparable with Khufu's 'Cult', the remains of which Hawass discovered some 16 years ago. There is a very good reason why there is only ONE small pyramid to the south of Khafre and my GPW theory explains this simply and logically. NOTHING to do with tombs of ANY kind.
That a 'Queen' of Khafre may have appropriated this very small structure as her tomb is quite immaterial to me. What I consider to be more significant are the general sizes of the pyramids and their distribution relative to each other at Giza. The titles we give them, 'Queens', 'Cults', 'Satellites', 'Great', whatever is quite immaterial to my theory - it is size and distribution I consider. What we have are 2 comparable very small pyramids (Cults), 2 sets of 3 comparable larger structures (Queens), then 3 very large structures (the Great pyramids).
In saying this, however, it does beg the obvious questions: if this Cult pyramid of Khafre has now been changed to a Queen's pyramid as Hawass now suggests, then where are the other four Queens Pyramids of Khafre? Surely if we see that he has built ONE Queen's Pyramid, then there is now no reason why he would not have built five? Yeah, I know - this one was 'special'. Nope - not acceptabe - we must have consistency. If Khufu built 'Queens', and Menkaure built Queens and now Khafre sort of only half-heartedly did it - this is a WORSE position than before because it now demonstrates that Khafre wasn't so dismissive of his wives as some here have speculated as a motive for not building 'Queens Pyramids'. Did the wives draw straws for the pyramid tomb?
Quite simply, if these structures were intended as tombs for the QUeens burial then (if Hawass is correct) we can now safely expect that Khafre would have constructed one for EACH of his FIVE wives. There was certainly enough money in the Dynastic coffers as can be witnessed by the later construction of Menkaure's (by comparison to the much smaller 'Queens') very large 'tomb', so why not have used some of this cash to build similar sized very small Pyramids for his other 4 Queens and save himself a lot of emotional grief into the bargain? Can you just imagine the arguments?
However, the TRUE PURPOSE of this structure (and also those 'Queens' of Khufu and Menkaure) was NOT intended (IMO) for the use the AEs made of them, although I do not doubt that they did put them to such a use.
BTW - where's Khafe's 'Cult' pyramid to be found now that this one has been ruled out? Seems Hawass has created more questions than answers.
