<HTML>Stone in Wales: materials, heritage and conservation

3-5 April 2002
At the National Museums and Galleries of Wales, Cathays Park, Cardiff

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for all those who are
involved in the past, present and future use of natural building materials,
particularly building stones, in Wales.

It is aimed at, archaeologists, quarry workers, historians, stone-masons,
architects, conservation geologists, monumental masons, geographers,
planners, drystone wallers, and many others, both professional and amateur.

The conference is expected to include several sessions for the formal
presentation of papers, exhibitions and field excursions, with a final
plenary session, providing an opportunity to make a statement on the present status of knowledge on this subject, and a useful contribution for the promotion of further studies and management practices. It is hoped that the proceedings will be published.

The conference is jointly organised and financed by: The National Museums
and Galleries of Wales, Countryside Council for Wales, Cadw. It is also
supported by The Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments,
