Great article!
I read somewhere else that when Layard found all those fragments of clay tablets they were not considered important and were piled off the edge of the location with the other trash. It would be an equally interesting story to find out why eventually the tablets were shipped back to England. Possibly it was the lack of other significant finds (such as the Layard 'lens') that the expedition felt they had to bring back something to justify all the work, hardship and expense.
