Sometimes. Remember this is limestone, and you can have any number of layers of it. The thickness varies on how much erosion took place.

Here in Texas, there are areas where various beds are actually quite thin in one spot and fairly thick in another. And, of course, you have beds overlying beds... so you're only seeing one top layer -- the one he chooses to reveal.
