I think some of the confusion is that we don't have good maps of where "Ethiopia" was in the past, though we have some good references for Egypt.

Another thing that struck me is that the name of the country probably changed during the rule of the Ptolomies... who were Greek. As I recall, Britain dictated the name for India and several other countries that it ruled. Same with Spain and many other countries.
