I believe the coordinates on Google Earth are accurate.
My experience with them (doing benchmarking and geocaching) is that mine can be as much as 9 feet in error. Since I'm not targeting anything for an airstrike, it's good enough for me.
One way to reduce error is to take multiple readings at the same spot.
Do take the GPS, even if you're not satisfied with the accuracy. It'll let you go strolling off onto new adventures and lead you safely back with the breadcrumb trail. We've used it to locate our hotel in a strange city, and to locate our car in a huge parking lot.
