Indeed ..it is the intensified draining of the Wetlands of the North Americxan Mid West that is the direct Prime cause of severe flooding in the Mississippi and Cdn Red River Valleys in the recent past. and with th eloss of wetlands one also looses the wildlife that adds to the overall ooze that is the black gold of those wet lands ..indeed any Bottom lands where the Natural ability to accomodate extreme water conditions and has been plowed, land filled, bermed or diked is slowly loosing the nutrients that they most rely on.

The ancient sites that this thread discusses were often around 'Bottom Land'.

The Ancient Egyptians considered it Paradise (see Reliefs of Pharaoh with throwing stick blissfully hunting eternally)

As an avid bird watcher I can testify that the damage has reached critical levels.
