Yes, those are the ones I remember reading about, and the gait sounds exactly like what we see in the Turkish group. We have too little information about the Turkish group to see if they favored other means of locomotion when they were younger, but I would bet that they did.

If this is the case, then I believe if we looked at long term care facilities for the mentally handicapped here in the "first world", we would see other such cases under various diagnoses. I'm sure these "first world wild children" will present a bit differently because they would have been seen by a number of different therapists, including physical therapists and been treated by various drugs.

I can see I'll have to do a little more reading on the topic... but I think my original theory is at least marginally plausible.
