Yet a systematic study of the occurrences of this expression shows that its use is not restricted to depictions of sphinxes, but rather that it is applied to statues of all sorts. Viewing it as the specific term for a sphinx is thus incorrect. In certain contexts, it can allude to such statues, but it is not confined to them." (Zive-Coche, 2002:12)


"By New Kingdom times, the Great Sphinx of Giza.....was interpreted as an image of Hor-em-akhet (Horus-in-the-horizon)" (R.H. Wilkinson 2003: 201), but this name only applies to the the Sphinx at Giza

This should be read in the light of what Zive-Coche wrote:

Budge has Hu: V28 (H) G43 (w) + recumbent lion det. E23, for the Sphinx at Giza, and Shesp (shep) for sphinx O42 (Ssp) Q3 (p) + sphinx det. (recumbent lion E23, but with a human head, divine curved beard, and uraeus)
