<HTML>Playing a flute today is a two step thing.......... the lungs are used as a "holding tank" as it were for the air ... which is released to form short and long notes by controling the amount of air released with your tongue.
If you softly say "du" while softly releasing air you'll get smooth passages of musical notes from one to the other ........ by using a "tu" instead you get a sharper staccato effect. It's call tonguing the flute.
How early would mankind been able to achieve that?
