Yes, as I posted, many types of wood would allow the entire thousand ton block to rest safely on a SINGLE "2x4" (3.5" x 7.5' stud, 1.5" thick, AKA a "2x4") sized piece of wood. Making a sledge of some kind allows the block to be supported by virtually ANY type of wood.... a 10 foot by 5 foot sledge would have only 4.4% as much pounds per square inch on it as on a 2x4 stud.

I just looked up the crushing strength of BALSA wood.... it ranges from 1,700-2,250 PSI depending on moisture content.

This means that a BALSA wood sledge only marginally larger than 2 foot x 4 foot WOULD support that hypothetical thousand ton block of stone. And if BALSA can do it.........
