Needless to say when the whole American Geological Ass. came out in support of Schoch's methodoloy it lead to a backlash that brought funding issues to bear. Then there were some of them who were encouraged to come out against both the methods and the conclusions.

Davidovits had done the evaluation in a different way based on chemistry (that is his Professorship) before Schoch did his thing. Then there is the fact that all academics had accepted the Inventory Stele proved the Sphinx was there long before the Great Pyramid was built (with the capstones that had been part of the design all along being put on top) - see ARCE dating data.

But to have these monuments being built that long ago by people that our paradigm (Bible Narrative backed) had Hellenized and plagiarized would not do - so they trotted out the single solitary statue of a sphinx with a pharaoh's head and went against reality as told in the tale of Theseus and other places. They could have found any number of sphinx's with all manner of psychopomps heads but they found a cartouche of Cheops on the outside of the Pyramid.
