I know what a catacomb is, and was in no way suggesting that this was about catacombs. It was just to indicate another solution. As far as this topic goes, IMO, there are other posbilities.
One of them is the subsidiary burial being used when those people died i.e. the tomb not being sealed permanently before all of "the kings men and women" were deceased and buried in it. This could have functioned as a burial the king provided (a reward of lifelong serives sort of), much in the fashion of having Khufu give a mastaba on the Giza plateau to someone. Those bodies have not been examined, so we have no idea if they were buried simultaneously or not.
The already buried bodies needn't be disturbed at the burial of the next one, unless the priests were stupid enough to bury the first one in such a manner, that he/she had to be moved to get the next in. As to the gravegoods. Who says they were supposed to have any in a burail like this? The "costume" could be just that: a service costume or a costume showing the rank of being buried with the king.
All I'm saying that there are other possibilities, that could be considered and not blindly stare at one that has been done in other cultures.
