The problem with every Atlantis theory is that matching Plato's account as a whole with their choice of location never seems to work. The "solution" for the theorists is just telling us that some bits are important, others are not, some are meant to be taken literally, some are not, as if they all sat next to Plato while he was writing Timaeus & Critias.
I bet if you let them read Plato's Republic, the alternative choir would say that it's in no way important. Even more so, I wouldn't be surprised if Sarmast said there were "other" pillars of Hercules and that Plato's size description is just there to show it was "large"? How large? Well, easy ... as large as Sarmast needs it to be.
