Greetings Ma'atians.
The Hall of Maat suffered a catastrophic hard drive crash over the weekend. We lost all posts after mid-May as a result. As far as I can determine the crash was not due to 'hacking' as has been speculated elsewhere, although we will likely never know for sure. The only diagnostic information I have to go by is that data corruption prevented the server from booting, and prevents me from accessing the drive to recover data. I will continue to try to get the summer postings off the drive - any linux guru's out there should feel free to contact me with advice.
Our original website was built using components from several other opensource packages besides phorum. The integration took several months to accomplish, and so I've been holding off until this latest-greatest version of Phorum was released to update the website knowing that it would be a bit of work when I got around to it.
It happens that Phorum has this very day released Version 5 of it's messageboard software. I've looked it over and decided that I can turn this disaster into an opportunity by upgrading thehallofmaat.com to take advantage of this new version as it has a number of features that you and our moderators will appreciate.
Articles and features other than the messageboard will take a while to return, as will the familiar color scheme. I'm currently beginning fall semester at Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications where I've been working toward a Master's in New Media. I'm finding time management is critical, but Ma'at is a high priority - hopefully we'll be back in full flower soon.
This version of Phorum has a membership management feature similar to the one on the old software. I'll eventually restore membership data from the old database for people who registered prior to mid-May but you can feel free to re-register using this new version. Doing so will allow you to edit your posts for a period of one hour after you submit them.
Don
