I did consider his Atlantean jab a bit below the belt though. Schoch's hypothesis is a serious scientific one - not the airy fairy nonsense we've come to expect from certain other authors.
And I do think we have possible authors of the Sphnix - the predynastic peoples. As for the lack of indicators of these at the Sphinx itself - well the whole place is surrounded by a dynastic complex. which could have been built on top of any predynastic remains.
At the moment we do not know for definite. None of the sides (Coxhill/Schoch vs Reader vs Harrell/Gauri has landed the killing blow, IMHO.
As I said, my <i>preferred</i> date is predynastic. Should it turn out that this is not the case, then fair enough. I have no problems with changing my conclusions based upon the evidence.
