<HTML>Archaeologists in the future would more than likely have contextual evidence to call upon when studying a well known structure such as the Taj Mahal. We would be well aware of the Islamic religion and the Taj Mahal's connection to same, for example.
Our knowledge of ancient monuments and their pupose rarely comes from the actual momument itself. In the case of the Great Pyramid, we have other pyramids built previously to add to the religious contextual information. We also have the tombs of Khufu's family members and reports dating back to antiquity dealing with the religious practices of the Old Kingdom. The information lending to the royal burial theory comes from many connecting sources and serves as contextual evidence to associate the pyramid with Khufu's tomb.</HTML>
