Warwick. Thanks for the links which I hope to read in due course. Some years I read that 'the heiroglyph for Sirius is, oddly enough, the triangular face of a pyramid' (James Bonwick, Pyramid Facts and Fancies 1877). The heiroglyph for Sirius, as you may know, is now associated with a thorn. But this set me thinking that the design of pyramids may have been linked to the cycles of timeby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Warwick Thank you for the historical detail. The reference to dog star was written in the context of me (possibly) barking up the wrong tree, so the historical detail fits the point I was trying to make, or more importantly the question I was asking. My question expresses my uncertainty. My choice of words was supposed to a bit of light humour, not so funny in the cold light of morning where I aby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Hi Graham, Could the ancient Egyptians have spotted a difference between the motion of Sirius and that of other 'fixed stars'? Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and may have been taken as a sign of the true solar year as far back as the Old Kingdom. The position of the fixed stars may have been expected to be exactly the same at the same time every year, but if a difference wasby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Warwick, I very much doubt that Dr Hawass intended to suggest that the ancient Egyptians knew that the earth orbits the sun, or that the wandering stars (Greek) were like our planet earth in orbiting the sun. More to the point, this is not how I interpreted his words. I supposed that the ancient Egyptians may have observed 309 lunar months in 25 calendar years, and 40 solar years in 40 calendaby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Graham, Have you you checked with an astronomer that Sirius can be used to estimate the rate of precession? Or do you know that this is indeed the case? For some reason, probably something I read somewhere, I have been under the impression that Sirius is too close to provide a good estimate of the rate of precession. And that this very fact meant that that it highlighted the true solar year withby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Thanks for your enquiry. I would like to put your question the other way round using my exact words: Can you cite one published Egyptologist who claims that AE'S were the best observational astronomers in the ancient world? The history of science promotes the Greeks and Babylonians as far more accomplished astronomers than the Egyptians, and rightly so from the evidence available. But modeby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Some years ago Dr Hawass wrote an interesting article entitled 'The Peak and Splendour of the Old Kingdom from the Fourth Dynasty to the end of the Sixth Dynasty' which I accessed in March 2005. His words stuck in my mind. I have just checked and the article is still on the web at I do not know what Dr Hawass meant by a profound knowledge of astronomy. Prior to my study of the Bent Pby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
I repect your rights as director, owner and moderator. I am disappointed that you had to stifle yawns when I contacted you last year. I have to admit that I did not expect you to yawn as in gaping with astonishment (Shak)! I accept that the burden of proof rests on those who want to promote the view that the ancient Egyptians observed precession. Dr Z. Hawass has concluded that the precision andby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
You actually wrote 'could always do' not 'could do' which has a completely different emphasis. In English it implies encouragement as in 'should do' without the risk of sounding rude as in 'you should do this or that'. As you had read my paper with 'great interest' I think my use of the word 'should' was a fair reflection of the sense ofby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
The abscence of evidence is not evidence of abscence. If we had a complete picture of the ancient world then there would be no need to search for more evidence. The phrase 'dare not' was not mine, but that of a famous Egyptologist. I think you know what was meant. My use of this phrase was not meant to be a negative comment against Egyptologists. I think experts do well not to stray outby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Thanks for highlighting the key aspect of the proposed symbolism so quickly. The upper slope of the Bent Pyramid, the zodiac and other aspects are secondary matters, which are not nearly as important. The paper on irrational numbers and pyramids by Gay Robins and C.C.D. Shute, as featured on this website, includes the statement that it is now generally agreed that the inclination of the lowerby Mark Heaton - Alternative Geometry and Numerology
Last year I launched a website on the shape of the Bent Pyramid at www.bentpyramid.co.uk. The perimeter at the level of the bend is 25,920 digits in a simple model of the dimensions. I have suggested that this was symbolic of the cycle of precession. In this model the Satellite Pyramid projects a circle with a circumference of 360 royal cubits in the base of the Bent Pyramid.
