Cover explanation with genetic detail
"GERMANY: One of Europe’s oldest battlefields is located in northeast Germany’s Tollense River Valley. Around 3,250 years ago, a clash involving some 2,000 warriors left a mile-long stretch of the river littered with weapons and dead bodies. Recent isotopic analysis of tooth enamel was able to narrow down the geographic origins of the combatants. While one group was local to the region, scientists determined that a second group was made up of diverse individuals who had traveled from southern Germany or central Europe to join the battle." —Jason Urbanus

I can see this also being a protected trade caravan being attacked to steal their goods; I would assume protected because of previous attacks. This would also explain some flint arrowheads and some bronze and some iron all mixed on the same battlefield. 1500 tribesmen vs 500 armored and trained guards would fit my scenario just fine. Disclaimer; this is simply my hypothesizing battle parameters, it's far from the only answer.
Finally; for those Mother Goddess aficionados who discuss a peaceful society before men ruined everything with testosterone, I think warfare has existed since the first homo erectus picked up a rock and brained "Alley Ooop" for making a pass at his girl. Joking aside, it's the records that are missing, NOT the conflicts.
