I don't think the swallowing is the same. In some NK texts, Apophis drinks the celestial water and he is defeated by being forced to regurgitate it. A vague reference to being "swallowed" as a euphemism to setting, which is also what happens in the Late Period with stars, seems quite different to me. In other NK texts Apophis threatens the sun in other ways and is stabbed or defeated by magic.

Seth in the early texts is the conqueror of Apophis. He is the one who can resist the gaze of Apophis, the only one in the sun's boat who can. He also spears Apophis and he is the one who can make the serpent regurgitate the water. As Seth became vilified, other deities take over the role, like the solar cat.
