Thanks for the heads-up. LA is a short plane-ride down the coast. I'd rather go see it in Cairo, because of all the other things to see there, but the chancesof doing that in the near-future are slim, so I'll take what I can get. Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
A little late, methinks. The modern Knights Templar can show no proof, as far as I know, that the original order did not simply die out. -Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
The best place to start is with the book "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" by Baigent Lee, and Lincoln. This is the book that popularised the Rennes Le Chateau "mystery" in the English-speaking world and speculated about the connection between the Holy Grail and Mary Magdelene/Merovingians/Holy bloodlines etc. (the Da-Vinci code regurgitates most of this book in fictionalby Joe_S - Ancient History
>> so joseph didn't bring the holy grail to france and with the aid of the templars hide the secret from the world. Well, nobody knows where Joseph of Aramaethea ended up, if anywhere. These stories most likely have their roots in the time of the Diaspora, when some Jewish escapees from the Roman destruction of Judea did find their way to the South of France. >>Trust theby Joe_S - Ancient History

This is a lot of nonsense: the code is not breakable by mathematical means: there simply isn't a big enough sample to crack it. It is most likely to consist of the first letters of Latin words: a very common form of abbreviation in medieval times. The fact there are dots between the letters and that those dots are at the centerline tells us that we have a Latin abbreviation in theby Joe_S - Ancient History
Unfortunately Cable News channels here in the States are repeating the same nonsense about the Holy Grail and the PoS. When I see fantasy presented as fact, it makes me wonder about the veracity of anything else that might be presented as "News". -Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
It has been savaged on this side of the pond. Three hours is probably 90 minutes too long for the average American attention span. I find it hard to believe that Oliver Stone would make an out-an-out clunker (although The Doors came pretty close, and I'm a fan of the band). However, I'm not going to sit in a drafty, noisy theatre for three hours to find out, so I'll wait for it to cby Joe_S - Ancient History
Given that the anonymous cracker attributes the inscription to the non-existent Priori de Sion (a fake organisation invented by Plantard and Co.), I've little confidence that his interpretaion is much more than educated guesswork. There are lots of reasons to believe that the code has nothing whatsoever to do with the belief (or otherwise) in the Divinity of Christ. For instance: if Poussinsby Joe_S - Ancient History
I think the answer is more likely to be climate-related. Homo Sap was aclimatised to the then-African climate and, I would have thought, poorly equiped to deal with the Ice-Age climate of Europe, whereas Neanderthal Man was. Homo Sap seems to have migrated along temperate-tropical zones, whch would seem to bear this out. When Europe started to get warm enough, then Homo Sap started to migrate Noby Joe_S - Ancient History
If these dates hold up, then we have a very short time period for the migration out of Africa, East to Asia and Australia and then on to the Americas. It would most likely have happened through temperate routes, a Northern entry seems most unlikely at that time (the 10,000 year delay for entry into Europe reinforces that). The only means of transport that seems viable to me in such a shorby Joe_S - Ancient History
>>The tools in the Homo Floresiensis strata were small (sized proportionally for their use). The tools in the Homo erectus strata were "full sized", and more primitive to boot. << That's interesting. I missed that they had found small tools. It seems that this is not the only place small tools were found, though and it may still be a bit of a leap to associate the toby Joe_S - Ancient History
I'm not sure I'd want to delve too deeply into what lurks behind my Fridge-Freezer. BTW, I noticed you got banned from GHMB for seemingly questioning the Wisdom of Steve. I really didn't see anything else that would warrant it. -Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
The location is very much the oppposite of "Beyond the Pillars of Hercules". "Atlantis: it's anywhere you want it to be". Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
I'm starting to wonder if there is,. in fact, a confusion here between the remains of what is basically an Ape (Homo Floresiensis) and artifacts and remains (tools etc.) of an earlier encampment by Homo Erectus on the Island in the same location. The reason I think this is likely is that the size of the brain of our alleged Homo Floresiensis is so much smaller than Homo Erectus and much mby Joe_S - Ancient History

On the face of it, this would seem to cast some doubt on the theory that a Catastrophic Asteroid impact led to a prolonged twighlight and cooling which wiped out the Dinosaurs. However, it doesn't overturn the physical evidence of just such an impact at this time. Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History

The whole story seems far-fetched: the bit about energy beams making the missiles explode doesn't fit wth any other UFO report I can think of. Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History

Fascinating stuff, John. The earlier material is more interesting because that's when there was a glut of UFO reports (from the late 40's to the early 60's). I found JFKs memos talking about co-operation with the USSR on Space exploration and landing on the moon very suprising, considering how the Space-race shaped up after he was assasinated (not sure what this has to do with UFOsby Joe_S - Ancient History
I agree 100% that more evidence is needed to fill in the gaps, but the Insular Dwarfing theory seems thus far to be the most plausible to me. Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
There's no need to throw anything out: specialization to a smaller size, due to environmental influences seems to be well understood. The challenge for you and others who may not agree is to show why this is not the case here, or why it doesn't apply to H. Erectus. -Joe.by Joe_S - Ancient History
