Hi all,
Been away from here for a while (but still occasionally lurking when I have a moment!) as I've been busy with my artwork. Just thought I'd take the opportunity for a shameless plug.
I have a new website if anyone cares to take a look. I'm available for portrait commissions and I would be happy to receive comments on my guestbook.
Thanks for looking, keep up the g

>>No, Bryan, I found a single example
Sorry, by 'multiple' I was referring to the luminous cloud and now the sun & moon as more than one example of changes to expected iconography.
>>Learning why this was changed is an important part of understanding the message the painter wished to convey.
Absolutely, I'm sure there is a religious/political/other reason

Sorry -I can see that I did indeed miss your point about number of examples.
In the article posted above there is another example of 'cloud only':
There is also a paragraph dedicated to the phenomenon:
>>One of the apocryphal gospels most heavily used as source of subjects for the artists of this period is James' Protogospel. And it is there that we find a descri

Yet you are now finding multiple examples where the iconography has been changed, which means that either it is OK to change the iconography slightly or there is a deeper meaning in some of these paintings which leads to... what? Alien spaceships?

>>It would have been nice to show more 'luminous clouds'.
One is all it takes. it's a symbol of the coming of the angel. In other paintings there is one luminous cloud which holds a host of angels which would suggest that they only need one cloud from which to emerge. I don't believe we need all the symbols in order to read the message. People wear crucifixes which d

>>I think the relevance is that a disk is painted in this picture rather than an angel as in others.
I don't believe it is a disk. If you read the article it explains clearly that, in line with iconography used at the time of the painting, what is painted is a luminous cloud. It is from this cloud that the angels emerge. They shine through the grey cloud with their radiance. The cl

Sorry to press the point and I'm not trying to be anything other than curious - when you say 'modern concept of UFO' do you mean alien spaceship of some sort? Saucer? Cigar-shaped craft? Triangular craft? I understand there are many different types of UFO. The image which appears to be a 'flying saucer' in the article I posted is actually a sunlit cloud, part of the icono

>>At least one of the European cave paintings more than 15,000 years old has a drawing that some have identified as a UFO.
You mean some have identified it as an unidentified flying object, or an alien spaceship? The former could still be interpreted many ways but it seems people are quick to use the epithet UFO when they actually mean alien spaceship.

This topic was raised on another message board which doesn't allow clickable links so, with apologies, I've brought the subject here. The page below offers a good explanation for the 'UFOs' which are said to appear in religious art from down the ages, especially in the Madonna-and-child type paintings.

So are they changing the back story just like that or is the report wrong and Winona is actually playing Spock's HUMAN mother?

Hi,
I don't think it's all that bad. You are giving them full rights on the material but ONLY for the purpose of enabling them to make YOUR content available on the web, which is, I guess, the point of the service?
Cheers,
Bryan.

Hi all,
Yes, the younger lady is Dave's second cousin. She is from the same generation as Dave and a direct descendant of the sibling of Dave's grandparents (in other words, Dave and the younger lady share great-grandparents). The older lady is Dave's first cousin once removed - because she is from the same generation as Dave's parents (once removed = one generation previous)

It always amused me that for all the scary posturing and shouting the warriors are talking about the 'hairy person who caused the sun to shine'!

Hi Paul,
This site was the subject of an episode of Time Team (Channel 4, UK). Time Team's archaeological methods are sound but the site in question has, in the past, been messed around with to such a degree that all the artifacts discovered have dubious context and statigraphy, rendering them useless in their ability to paint an archaeological picture of the site.

I had a similar one of these pop up when I was about to buy something with PayPal. It suggested that I had to reactivate my PayPal account and asked for various personal details such as my ATM pin number, which obviously made me immediately suspicious. Luckily I found a way to remove the offending trojan. One has to be so careful now!

I wish I could have more of an egyptological input but instead I'll have to make do with a simple correction: Clive Dunn played Corporal Jones in Dads Army; Chris Dunn is the Giza Power chap

I was! Surely a freemason has access to all the dark mysteries of the ancient Egyptians... don't they...? Or maybe it's the Rosicrucians... or the Illuminati or... etc etc
