I must say that I envy you fellows who can read an article like that, and critique it in only a few lines, and get a message accross! Even knowing virtually nil on the subject, just what a few months reading here has taught me, I am impressed, to put it mildly!!

Wow is such a mild word looking back, even over 40 years! You might find it intersting to Google the event. Anchorage, Alaska, Good Friday, 1964 got me right there, with several interesting postings.
You may now have a little better clue to why, if you saw in some of my earlier posts today, just a little bit of anxiety!

Same reaction here, being's I have live here most of my 64+ years. I have 'ridden out' 3 plus 7. Richter shakers here in South California, and the one great quake 9.2 Richter in Alaska, and that was a real terrifying event with approximately 50 feet of vertical thrust, and several hundred feet of latteral motion. To put it mildly, THAT WAS A RIDE!
Just thinking on it, my skin i

If meaning to beat me with it, you must supply the hardhat!

Yes wirelessguru1,
I saw the other thread, and living here most of my life, always ready as can be, (food, water, lights etc.) It's the mind that is hardest to prepare! When the ground becomes unstable and moving, so goes the mind, at least that is the way it is with most of us here!! I usually introduce people from other areas with something like "welcome to shaky city!"

Interesting stuff wirelessguru1,
You are far more into these things than I am and lost me on 'the R-B effect' and other items. No need to inform me now, as I'm good at learning as I go, and will pick up these things.
The axial motion of the earth is something I do grasp, and being affected by two (sun, moon) gravity sources the plates are under more stress at the solstices

Thanx John,
Coming from you I take that as a real compliment!
The signature just 'came up' one day as I first noticed the feature on so many postings. I looked and looked, and just could not find a line that 'hit' and then one morning just woke up with this one. Again thanx for even noticing!
I will say your hardhat is definitely necessary in dealing with lesser int

Hi again Stephanie,
The post you just responded to ending in 'on this' is exactly as the major motion hit here. I thought I hit preview, but post instead. The 'workaholic' post was to be a joke but I was rudely interupted by the quake, and have since forgot! I think I was going to say on this planet? Of course I know the term but just wanted to play a bit, but when the

Hi Stephanie, and Group,
Three quakes over 5. Richter in one week is a little unusual, though the 1 big 7+ Richter was almost 1ooo miles away up north, no way connected. These here were most likely connected.
Cal Tech has just downgraded to 4.9 Richter, though the effect certainly seemed as a greater than 5.Richter.
Probably more unnerving than anything!

Hi Doug,
Three seconds is the shortest of many times reported locally, ten to fifteen is closer to all those here.
I guarantee you lots of people care whether the Seven-Eleven worker did or not! In an active area as this, three quakes this week, we never know how to react other than 'normal' as any of these could be a preshock, so uneasy nerves in any ground movement.

These are 'normal' if my feeling for a 5.Richter is on, but if the epicenter was far away, someone just had a big one!
Just in- 5.3 Richter San Bernardino area 50 miles or so away.
Aftershock just rolled through, lightly felt motion, maybe 3.Richter
Satellite measuring has reported several millimeters of land motion.
No damage of any significance reported so far......Some l

Well maybe not exactly mistrust. There is a large no. of immigrants from Indonesia, and that whole area living here, and the word 'tsunami' brings up feelings that we have no idea of. Even earthquake, something we here are used to hearing, has an whole different meaning to them, coming from an area even more seismically active than here.
You then mention 'get out of work'

Being here in Caliornia, I am thankful that of the 2 event quakes that the smaller hit land and larger in ocean, with NO tsunami!! A 7 Richter is a disaster on land if near populated areas. Two in one week, Whew!!!

I will still be able to get on occaisionally at the library, if I have the patience to wait in line with the students to use one of the three stations. Maybe use that time to condense my posts!

In a wierd way I felt an advantage when that alert blared out of the radio. Being homeless in a van suddenly was easy to just start up and head for high ground without those awesome decisions of what to grab in a panic!
The 'stand down the alert' notice came quickly, as I was hoping, knowing several hours before any water action here. Quite a bunch of p

Today the shop owner called the computer hook up people to shut down. This PC and the merchandise is being moved to the new location in Irvine, about 15 miles away. I won't be at the new location.

Thanx Doug for clearing up what the article is about for me, as it will not screen here, as I afore stated.
That said, the post I made is definitely related, and relevant, and the sooner people realize this crud is on the net, and start doing their jobs as parents and carers, the better off our kids will be. And maybe the so-called 'freedom of the press, and speech' issues, and laws
